The mayoral race in New Orleans has added another candidate: Businessman John Georges. After months of speculation, Georges finally announced that he is running for mayor and ready to lead New Orleans.
Georges' official announcement took place November 4, 2009, at Lil Dizzy's Restaurant on Esplanade in the Tremé neighborhood.
"The citizens of New Orleans want a candidate that can solve the crime problem; create economic opportunity; somebody that's fair; that they can trust and someone that's honest — I am that candidate for mayor," Georges said. "I have the resources to run an effective campaign."
Georges spent over $12 million (of his own money) when he ran for governor two years ago. Now he plans to spend $2 million on his mayoral campaign; however, so far none is his own.
