Miller-McCoy Academy for Mathematics and Business, an open admission, free tuition, all-male New Orleans public charter school, will host a Community Open House on Thursday, July 15 at its New Orleans East campus, located at 7301 Dwyer Road from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

The Community Open House will showcase Miller-McCoy Academy's educational environment that is serving the specific needs of urban males in grades 6-12.

"We are thrilled to open our doors for the community-at-large to see first-hand our vision in action," said Keith Sanders, Miller-McCoy Academy's co-founder and high school principal. "We are preparing our students for college and beyond and our Community Open House will give parents, business owners, faith leaders, elected officials and area residents an opportunity to meet our impressive young men," said Sanders.

Inspired by the pioneering spirit of Kelly Miller and Elijah McCoy for their contributions to the fields of mathematics and business/entrepreneurship, Miller-McCoy Academy is a college preparatory learning community. In addition to a curriculum that emphasizes mathematics and business, Miller-McCoy Academy offers a full athletic program in baseball, basketball, football, track, cross country and lacrosse.

"We educate our male students with a three-fold focus," said Dr. Tiffany Hardrick, Miller-McCoy Academy's co-founder and middle school principal. "We promote high levels of academic achievement; we nurture the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of male learners; and we provide all our students the skills needed to be analytical thinkers, self sufficient and successful entrepreneurs, inventors and positive contributors to society," added Hardrick.

Miller-McCoy Academy is featured in the upcoming documentary "Waiting for Superman" by Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Davis Guggenheim. The film, to be released this fall, examines the state of public education in America.
